Running on fumes, need more hands, or a chauffeur? While we moms wouldn’t trade the crazy mom lifestyle for anything, it comes with challenges, especially when you combine running a business to the mix.  

In honor of Mother’s Day, let’s take a closer look at some of the challenges of running a business while being a mom.

The Act of Juggling

First, there’s the never-ending juggle between motherhood and running a business and trying to find just the right balance for yourself. Managing employees, finances, day-to-day tasks, as well as growing your business can be overwhelming. It often means taking time away from your family and the activities that come along with having children such as practices, school events, helping with homework, and don’t forget all the household chores that are piling up.

Speaking of just the right balance – it is very common for moms to tackle home and work tasks after the kids have settled down for the night. In the personalization industry we see a lot of creative processes happening at those late hours. It is so fulfilling getting orders caught up and ready to drop off or ship the next morning!

The Back-up Plan

Another challenge is finding the right support system. Many moms struggle to find reliable childcare that allows them to fully focus on their work. Besides childcare, many obstacles arise with children such as having your child come down with a bug, doctor appointments, or your child getting sent home from school. A supportive spouse, family and friends can make all the difference in the world and take the stress off!

Budgeting

Finances can stress just about anybody out, but when it comes to running a business, finances definitely play an important role and can be very challenging to manage. When you add in other expenses like school fees, sports, and clothing. It seems like it’s never ending which is why financial planning becomes even more critical.

Mom Guilt

Lastly, “Mommy Guilt” is a thing.  Being a full-time mom and running a business you are always wanting to improve on all levels, as well as prove to yourself that you can do it all! We know you can, but the challenges of making sure both worlds run efficiently can take a toll.
