Laser '1' Opaque heat transfer paper for dark fabrics is a revolutionary heat transfer product. This 1-step opaque heat transfer is actually made for use in HIGH HEAT laser printers. Since this paper is made for use in the high heat laser printers some settings may need to be adjusted to achieve the best results. We recommend using Techni-Print 4.0 heat transfer paper for light fabrics in conjuntcion with this paper.

Frequently Asked Questions

What settings do I use on my printer?
This is a hard question to answer since there are so many different printers and copiers on the market today. There are 2 basic guidelines to follow when using laser printers for heat transfer paper that will help you get the best results.

First, did the heat transfer paper jam in the machine? In other words, did you have to open up the machine to get the transfer paper out? If the transfer paper jams inside the machine the first thing you need to do is run a couple blank sheets of regular copy paper through your printer to clean out the fuser. If the transfer paper jammed you will need to adjust your settings to move the paper through the machine faster. The fuser is getting too hot at this point and the heat transfer paper is beginning to release in the fuser unit. The fastest setting is normal, bond or plain paper mode. This should allow the paper to run although it may not fuse completely. The key at this point is to find the right setting that will allow you to run the paper with the correct amount of fusing.

Second, did the paper run through the machine, but the toner looked stringy or cracked? With some machines you will need to slow down the print speed by changing your settings to "Extra Heavy" paper and use a" Labels" or "Transparency" mode, if possible. This will allow the paper to spend more time fusing which, in turn, will make your heat transfer look much better!

How do I know if it isn't fusing?
If the toner is not fusing to the transfer paper, the image will appear stringy and flaky after printing. Another sign may be cracked toner during the peeling process or poor washability. All of the above can be fixed by slowing down the print speed of your copier.

Printing Equipment:
  • Coastal's Laser 1 Opaque works in both color laser copiers and color laser printers

    Printing:
  • Use single sheet feeding only
  • Copy/print on the coated, rough side of the transfer paper in right reading (DO NOT MIRROR IMAGE) and heavy stock mode
  • Trim away the unprinted paper around your image
  • Generally it is recommended to increase color brightness when copying /printing.
  • Try to use an image with rounded edges to avoid possible corner liftoff after washing.

    Transferring with commercial heat press:
  • Do NOT pre-heat t-shirt
  • Remove paper backing from transfer film
  • Tip: Tear paper backing slightly (about 1/8") for easy removal of paper backing
  • Place imaged transfer film in desired position (FACE UP) on fabric
  • Cover imaged transfer film with enclosed silicon paper (OR Dazzle-Trans for a glossy finish)
  • Silicon paper can be used multiple times
  • Press at 375 degrees using medium pressure for 20 seconds (reduce time if using Dazzle-Trans)
  • Allow silicon/Dazzle-Trans to cool completely and peel when cool

    Washing Instructions:
  • Always turn textile inside out before washing
  • Machine wash warm
  • Tumble dry gently
  • Do not use harsh or bleaching detergents
  • After washing we recommend turning shirt inside out and ironing the image from the back.
